Mr Samar Abbas Kazmi
Samar’s practice focuses on commercial and construction disputes, financial services and international arbitration. Dr Amel Abdallah
Amel Abdallah (PhD, MCIArb), Associate professor, at College of Law - University of Bahrain - worked at FSJPST, University of Carthage -Tunisia, worked at the College of Law, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman from 2008 to 2020, where she got promoted to associate professor. She was the Assistant Dean for postgraduate studies and research at the College of Law (SQU) from 2012 to 2015. Dr Abdallah is an Accredited arbitrator in Omani Courts, and a practitioner arbitrator in GCC Arbitration Center, DIAC & CRCICA.

Ms Adineh Abghari
Member of the Iranian Central Bar Association since 2001, Adineh is specialized in international arbitration and commercial law. She has acted as lawyer, legal expert and researcher in different countries (Iran, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the UK) and is familiar with civil law, common law and Islamic law.
Currently, Adineh works as Legal Senior Manager at Samsung and is a member of the Arbitration Board of the Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre and a member of the Arbitration Center of Iran Chamber of Commerce.
Her native language is Farsi and she is fluent in English and French.
Prof Kristen Adams
Kristen David Adams graduated from Emory Law School with honors in 1995 and received a masters of law from Yale Law School in 2000. She was a managing editor of the Emory Law Journal. Professor Adams received her B.A. cum laude from Rice University in 1992. She is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif. She practiced law in Atlanta, first with Alston & Bird, L.L.C., and later with Altman, Kritzer & Levick, P.C. Dean Adams' practice included work in general commercial litigation, products liability, medical products litigation, medical and psychiatric malpractice defense, intellectual property, and real estate litigation. Dean Adams has authored four books: The Practice of Law School: Getting in and Making the Most of Your Legal Education, Commercial Transactions: A Survey of United States Law with International Perspective, Uniform Commercial Code in a Nutshell, 7th ed and 8th edition, and Global Issues in Commercial Law, and more than a dozen law review articles. Dean Adams is also a member of the American Law Institute, vice chair of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section's Uniform Commercial Code Committee, and a member of the Florida Bar's Public Interest Law Section Homelessness Committee.
Ms Sabina Adascalitei
Sabina Adascalitei is a Research Associate at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, based in London. Previously, she has gained work experience in the Dispute Resolution department at CMS Cameron McKenna and as in-house counsel in a commercial entity.
Sabina is a law graduate, having completed her LLM in International Arbitration at University College London (UCL). During her studies, Sabina continuously specialised in International Commercial Arbitration and Litigation. Her knowledge and skills of Arbitration were enhanced through specialised programmes conducted at University of Düsseldorf and London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
Sabina’s passion for the field of arbitration started with the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Competition in Vienna. She acted as legal counsel in the proceedings for two years, after which she officially coached other teams for the competition. At the moment, she is the Vis Moot coach for UCL and helps the students both with their legal arguments and preparations for oral hearings.

Prof Dr Sebnem Akipek
I am graduated from Ankara University Law Faculty at the head of my class, cum laude, in 1989. I completed LL.M at London School of Economics in 1991. I finished Ph.D at Ankara University in 1998. Following that I become an assistant proffessor at Ankara University Law Faculty. In 2004 I become an associate proffessor and in 2010 I obtained proffessorship. Till then I am working as a full time proffessor at Ankara University Law Faculty.
Between the years 2006-2013 I acted as the director of the Vocational School of Justice. Also I am the chief legal advisor of Middle East Technical University for nearly 14 years. Currently besides my other duties I am also the Dean of the Law Faculty of Kadir Has University.
My main fields of study are civil law, international commercial arbirtration, law of contracts, consumer protection, energy law. I have written several books and articles on various legal subjects, especially on my main fields of interest.
In the field of international commercial arbitration I am also acting as an arbitrator, expert witness and advocate.

Born on July 19th, 1964, in Angola. Nuno has a law degree, by university of Coimbra (1988). Nuno is inscribed in Portugal’s bar association, as a lawyer, since 1990; in Angola’s bar association, since 2008; and in Paris’ bar association, since 2014. He is an insolvency administrator, inscribed in the official list of insolvency administrators since 1995. Alan M. My name is Paul Babus and I am currently a practitioner lawyer from Romania. Prof Spyridon V. Bazinas
Mr. Bazinas is a legal consultant, independent arbitrator and law lecturer. Up to October 2017, he was the Secretary of the UNCITRAL Working Group VI (Security Interests), which prepared a number of uniform law texts on secured financing, such as the Guide to Enactment of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Trandactions (2017). UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Trandactions (2016), UNCITRAL Guide on the Implementation of a Security Rights Registry (2013), the Supplement on Security Interests in Intellectual Property Rights (2010), and the UNCITRAL Legislative Guide on Secured Transactions (2007). He also served as Secretary of the Working Group on International Contract Practices, when it prepared the draft Convention on the Assignment of Receivables in International Trade (2001). I am Assistant Professor in International Commercial Law at University of Nottingham, where I teach commercial law, contract law, international sales transactions, international commercial arbitration and conflict of laws. My name is Stephan Biehl and I am 26 years old. I studied at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz (Germany) and earned my law degree in January 2015 (First State Examination). Andrea K. Bjorklund is the L. Yves Fortier Chair in International Arbitration and International Commercial Law at McGill University Faculty of Law. She is an adviser to the American Law Institute’s project on restating the U.S. law of international commercial arbitration. Mileslava Bogdanova-Misheva graduated with honors a Master of Laws at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She is currently working as an associate at a law firm in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is a member of the Sofia Bar Association since 2016 and works as an associate at a Bulgarian law firm.
She is one of the pioneers who established the presence of the Willem C. Vis Commercial Arbitration Moot in Bulgaria. He initially trained as a French lawyer (1977 – 1981). He holds titles from the Universities of Paris (Licencé en Droit 1980, Maître en Droit 1981).
He studied in the United States at Harvard University (LL.M. 1983) and took the New York Bar Exam (1983/84). Until today, he is a member of the New York Bar.
After a year in an international law firm in Washington D.C. (concentrating on a large international oil dispute against the state of Iran), Eckart registered as an U.S. attorney in Germany while he studied at Hamburg University (1984 – 1987).
Following the first state exam, he first clerked at the Court of Appeal in Hamburg for two and a half years and then practiced international business law in a major law firm until he was offered partnership.
In 1996, Eckart founded the BRÖDERMANN JAHN law firm as a spin-off. Shortly thereafter he was joined by his former senior partner Erhard Jahn.
In parallel, Eckart went on writing and teaching. In 1994, the University of Hamburg had awarded him the title of a Doctor Iuris.

Four years ago Diederik de Groot (MCIArb) retired from DLA Piper (Amsterdam office) to start his own law firm as a sole practitioner. At DLA Piper, he was engaged in the firm's international dispute resolution practice and was a member of the global arbitration team. Thera Dieleman (1988) grew up as a Dutch citizen in Germany. She is a real estate lawyer in a notary firm in the east of the Netherlands, which focuses on cross-border cases between the Netherlands and Germany. Before she has been a lecturer in Private Law at Maastricht University, Radboud University Nijmegen, both the Netherlands, and Hasselt University, Belgium, for 3,5 years. In 2009, she obtained a Bachelor degree in Economics from Utrecht University. In 2013, she graduated from Leiden University, having completed Masters in Civil Law and Philosophy of Law. During her masters in Civil Law she got interested in arbitration and has done empirical research on the use of arbitration and mediation within a multinational.
During her studies, she was among other things a student-assistant in the library of the Dutch Supreme Court in The Hague.
She is a former participant in the 20th Vis Moot and was twice an arbitrator in Vienna and twice during the virtual editions. Martin Doe serves as Deputy Secretary-General and Principal Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, an intergovernmental organization which administers arbitrations and other dispute resolution proceedings involving various combinations of States, State entities, intergovernmental organizations, and private parties.

Žiga participated in the moot in 2008/2009 as part of the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Law team. He has since worked at the Higher Court in Ljubljana, passed the state legal exam and worked for two and half years at a large Slovenian law firm. Ms Christina Doria
Christina--a Vis 2009 alumna--practices commercial litigation and international arbitration in Baker & McKenzie's Toronto office, and is a member of the firm's Global Dispute Resolution Group. She advises on domestic and cross-border commercial litigation, international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration. She has appeared before all levels of Ontario court and before domestic and international arbitral tribunals. Sanja Došen is an associate at Gecić, Aksić & Stojković Law Firm in Belgrade.
Prior to joining Gecić Law, she completed summer internships in Vip mobile, department of regulatory affairs and in Law office Moravčević, Vojnović and Partners in cooperation with Schoenherr. During her master studies, she was a member of team Belgrade in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, which went on to triumph in the All Munich Rounds Tournament in March 2014. During her undergraduate studies she has been an active member of NGO Pro Bono for providing free legal help and a member of the faculty’s debate club. Sanja received scholarship from the Dositej fund for the best students in Serbia by the Ministry of Education Republic of Serbia in 2012/13 and 2014/2015, and University of Belgrade Endowment Scholarship in 2011, 2012 and 2013. She was awarded two scholarships by the Kingdom of Denmark, and spent two months in 2014 and 2015 in Denmark, studying Danish language.

Ms Hana Doumal
Ms. Hana Doumal leads the Secretariat of the BVI International Arbitration Centre.
Hana has served in the arbitration sector at leading international firms and arbitral institutions in Hong Kong, Washington, D.C. and Paris. She has experience in commercial arbitration and investor-State arbitration, working in English, French and Spanish.
Before joining the BVI IAC, Hana was a Registered Foreign Lawyer in the international arbitration practice of Pinsent Masons in their Hong Kong office. She previously worked as a Registered Foreign Lawyer with the arbitration team of King & Wood Mallesons in Hong Kong, and before that, as Counsel at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). Her experience also includes an externship at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, D.C. In Paris, she was an associate in the International Litigation and Arbitration practice of Foley Hoag, and she completed internships at Allen & Overy and Herbert Smith Freehills.

Carolyn A. Dubay is the Executive Director of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission. Prior to assuming this position in January 2016, she served as the Vice Chair of the Charlotte International Arbitration Society in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ms. Dubay has more than 15 years of legal experience in commercial litigation and international law. Most recently, Ms. Dubay held academic positions first as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Leuven in Belgium, where she researched European private international law, and then as a faculty member at the Charlotte School of Law, where she taught constitutional law, comparative constitutional law and coached the law school's 2014-2015 Vis team. The Hon Sir Bernard Eder
Bernard Eder practised as a barrister for almost 35 years – between 1976 and 2010 - specialising in commercial litigation and international arbitration. In 1991, he was appointed QC. During his practice, he acted as Counsel in over 100 reported cases (including in the Commercial Court, the Court of Appeal, the House of Lords and the Privy Council) and over 200 international arbitrations. He also acted as Counsel in numerous foreign jurisdictions as well as arbitrator under the aegis of the ICC, the LCIA and the LMAA and on an ad hoc basis. In 2011, he was appointed a Justice of the High Court of England and Wales. He retired from the Bench on 1 April 2015. During his time as a High Court Judge, he sat mainly in the Commercial Court in London where he presided over a number of high-profile trials. On 7 May 2015, he was appointed an International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court. Chloe is a senior associate at London firm Macfarlanes LLP. She has a particular interest in international arbitration and commercial litigation, with a focus on corporate disputes.

Prof Dr Siegfried H. Elsing
Siegfried H. Elsing, partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, is a globally recognized international arbitration lawyer with more than 30 years experience acting as counsel, party-appointed arbitrator, sole arbitrator or chairman. He represents private investors, international companies, sovereign states and state agencies on a national and international level. Mr. Elsing has acted in more than 300 arbitrations, including ad hoc proceedings as well as arbitral proceedings under the rules of leading arbitral institutions such as DIS, HCCI, HKIAC, ICC, ICSID, SCC, VIAC and others. Mr. Elsing is honorary professor at Heinrich-Heine-University in Duesseldorf.
Prof Dr Frank Emmert
Prof. Emmert teaches International Business Transactions, Int'l Commercial Arbitration, WTO Law, EU Law and Int'l Investment Law at Indiana University, where he is also Director of the Center for Int'l and Comparative Law. Originally trained and admitted to the bar in Germany, he holds an LL.M. from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and a doctorate from Maastricht University. From 1991 to 1993, he was Executive Director of the Academy of European Law at the EUI in Florence, from 1993 to 1998, he taught at the Europainstitut Basel, from 1998 to 2002, he served as Dean and Professor at Concordia International University Estonia (now part of Tallinn University), and from 2002 to 2003, he visited at Cardozo School of Law in NY. Prof. Emmert has taught for credit in more than a dozen countries, including St Gall University, Stanford Law School, Charles University, Amsterdam University, Guadalajara, Strasbourg, the College of Europe (Natolin). Many of his 100+ publications are available on ResearchGate. He speaks frequently at conferences around the world and serves as an arbitrator in international business disputes and advisor to multinational corporations, governments, and international organizations. In 2018, Prof. Emmert founded the International Smart Mediation and Arbitration Institute (www.SmartArb.org).

My name is Mirjam Jasmin Escher. I was born 30 January 1990 at Erlangen, Germany. I completed the First Legal State Examination in 2014, after studying at University of Heidelberg and University of Coimbra, Portugal. At Heidelberg, I worked as a student research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. Currently, I am writing a doctoral thesis as a member of the Max Planck Research School on Dispute Resolution. My doctoral advisor is Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Thomas Pfeiffer, for whom I am working as a research assistant. Additionally, I am coaching Heidelberg’s 2016 Vis Moot Team.

Jörn Eschment is a Director at Burford with responsibility for leading its investment activity and operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, focused on working with companies, funds, investors and law firms engaged in complex commercial litigation and arbitration in Europe and abroad. Prior to joining Burford, Jörn practiced international commercial arbitration and litigation at Herbert Smith Freehills in Hong Kong and at Schellenberg Wittmer in Zurich, representing clients in complex multi-jurisdictional disputes with an emphasis on energy, natural resources, construction and infrastructure. Previously, he had also worked at The Boston Consulting Group and interned at the German Parliament as well as in the Foreign Relations Office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Jörn currently serves as Regional Ambassador for HK45, the young practitioners’ group within the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. Qualified in Switzerland and a former Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong, Jörn read law as an Adenauer Scholar at the universities of Freiburg, Liverpool, Marburg and Passau, graduating with the German Staatsexamen, an LLM in European law (Dean’s Prize Scholar), and a doctorate in public international law, all with distinction. He also holds an MA from the War Studies Department at King’s College London.

Mr Francisco Esparraga
Francisco migrated to Australia from Sevilla, Spain as a young child and is still fluent in the Spanish language. He undertook his undergraduate degrees at the University of New South Wales and his postgraduate studies at the University of Sydney.
In his early legal career, he worked at the Privacy Committee within the Attorney-General’s Department of NSW; SBS Television and the Department of Territories and Local Government in Canberra. On returning to Sydney, he spent many years in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and several years at the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
In more recent years, he has worked in private practice; been a part-time Member of the Consumer Trader Tenancy Tribunal; lectured at all of the Law Schools in Sydney, as well as working for the Legal Practitioners’ Admission Board and the College of Law. He is a Foundation Member of the Australian Institute of Administrative Law since 1989.
In 2010, Francisco was appointed as the Australian Representative to the Board of the International Client Consultation Competition. He is a judge in this competition, as well as the VIS International Commercial Arbitration Moot and Australian Law Students’ Association Competitions. He is a Member and Treasurer of the Mediation Committee and the Academic and Professional Development Committee of the International Bar Association.
In 2010, he co-authored the “Administrative Law Guidebook” for Oxford University Press and is working on the next edition which will be published in 2015. Over the years, Francisco has written and presented papers at Conferences in Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Dubai, the United Kingdom and Japan. In 2013 and 2014, he was invited to undertake guest lecturing at several Law Schools in China.
In 2014, Francisco was invited to present papers on the “Teaching of Legal Ethics” at the International Legal Ethics Conference in London and at the International Bar Association Conference in Tokyo.
Francisco’s research speciality is Administrative Law but also teaches Alternative Dispute Resolution and Legal Research and Writing. He has also taught Contracts Law, Corporations Law, Torts and the Law of Evidence. He maintains an interest in Comparative Law, particularly Chinese Administrative Law; European Community Law and Legal Ethics. Francisco is currently writing a book on Legal Ethics.
Mr José Angelo Estrella Faria
Former Secretary-General of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) between 1 October 2008 to 31 July 2017 and former Principal Legal Officer and Head, Legislative Branch, at the secretariat of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
A staff member of the United Nations from 1992 to 2024, he was responsible for UNCITRAL work on privately financed infrastructure projects and electronic commerce. He also supervised the work of Working Group III (Transport Law) between 2005 and 2008. He currently supervises all legislative work of UNCITRAL.
Mr. Estrella Faria is a national of Brazil. He graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and holds a Master of European Law from the Europa Institut der Universität des Saarlandes (Saarbrücken, Germany). He has published various articles and books on legal harmonisation, commercial law, cultural property law and international law. He has lectured at various universities and is an honorary professor of the University of International Business and Economics, China. He is a member of the Curatorium of the Xiamen Academy of International Law, the American Law Institute, the European law Institute and is an Associate member of the International Academy of Comparative Law.
Sir Anthony Evans
Sir Anthony Evans is chairman of the Special Tribunal established in December 2009 by His Highness the Ruler of Dubai (Decree No. 57 of 2009) “to decide the Disputes Related to the Settlement of the Financial Position of Dubai World and its subsidiaries”. He was the inaugural Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts from 2005 to 2010. His judicial career experience was as a High Court Judge in England and Wales (and a Judge of the Commercial Court) from 1984 until 1992, then as a member of the Court of Appeal (Lord Justice of Appeal) until 2000. He practised as a barrister from 1959 until 1984, mostly in the Commercial Court in London but with international experience in Hong Kong, Singapore and elsewhere, including Australia where he became a member of the Victorian Bar in 1976. Since retiring from the Court of Appeal in 2000 he has practised as an international commercial arbitrator in a number of jurisdictions, including India, Switzerland, USA and Singapore, as well as in England and Wales, and 2003-2014 was a member of the Court of Appeal in Bermuda.
